Our History & Mission
History
The Audeville Society will be a 501c3 organization* founded in the summer of 2024 by some passionate friends with a shared vision. We are dedicated to uplifting performing artists & fostering creativity within the New England arts community. Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, we set out on a mission to support small-budget productions that often operate on the fringes of traditional funding routes.
The name “Audeville” was chosen as a nod to the artistry & camp of Vaudeville - but a bit odder. Cabaret, puppetry, variety show, circus, drag, and more … we love it all!
The word “Society” was added as a way to invite our grantees, patrons, & partners to come together as a community & to lift each other up. Whether we are introducing band leaders to singers, wig artists to drag queens, or marketing folks to first-time producers, we hope that everyone who sets foot in our ‘society’ holds in their hearts a desire to help!
And our logo is meant to represent the classic northeastern coastline - celebrating the history & beauty of this amazing region.
Mission
At The Audeville Society, our mission is to empower and enrich the vibrant tapestry of New England's artistic community by supporting small-budget and fringe performance productions. Through our grants program, we provide crucial financial assistance to innovative and boundary-pushing theatrical endeavors, ensuring that creativity knows no financial bounds. By featuring diverse voices and unconventional narratives, we strive to cultivate an inclusive and dynamic cultural landscape where every artist has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we aim to create a community of local artists who share a belief in the transformative power of live performance.
*Audeville Society is currently in the process of working with the commonwealth of Massachusetts to file the necessary paperwork to begin work as a certified 501c3 non-profit. As of now, our status as a non-profit is still “tentative.”
Our Directors
Thomas Drury-Wang
Founder/President
Tom formed The Audeville Society as a love-letter to fringe & smaller-budget performance. With a history of non-profit event planning - as well as a background in cabaret-style performance - he hopes to create truly memorable, genre-spanning, live performances. And with his history of grant development, he hopes to allow others with similar visions to bring their own concepts to life with financial & productive support from The Audeville Society!
A commitment to excellence & a keen eye for detail allow Tom to consistently deliver events that exceed expectations - leaving attendees captivated, inspired, & anxiously awaiting the next event.
Jenn Batore
Chair, Grants Committee
If the world needs more of anything, it's performing arts that reflect & celebrate a spectrum of lived experiences. Live theater evokes feelings in a singularly intimate way which anyone who has been moved by an artistic performance can attest. Jenn feels strongly that the production of stage performances, especially from small companies & independent artists, should be easier, not harder! She is dedicated to lessening financial barriers that hold artists back from sharing their stories with an eager community.
Liam Drury-Wang
Vice-Chair, Grants Committee
Liam has had a love of theater & non-profit work his entire life, passed down from his mother. He is thrilled to work on a project that combines the two!
His experience participating in theater began with acting & directing in college productions & continues today with his current involvement in immersive & interactive theater projects around Massachusetts.
His current non-profit work includes his seat as a vice-president on the board of directors of a national 501c3.
Liam wants to ensure that others who have a drive to produce their own shows have an opportunity to do so through Audeville's grants fund - not allowing financial strains to hinder creative endeavors.
